Key stats on the F.A Cup

The FA Cup is the oldest cup competition in the world. It first took place in 1871 and was won by Wanderers Football club. As of the 2015/16 season 736 took part from every part of the Football League. Arsenal FC are the current holders and have won the famous old cup a record twelve times. The FA Cup have become famous for remarkable matches and results. Lower league teams who manage to fight it out to the fourth round can be drawn against the Premier League big boys. These matches have caused massive shocks and «Giant Killings ». Last year was a prime example. League two side Bradford City travelled to Stamford Bridge to take on table toppers Chelsea. Jose Mourinho’s men went 2-0 up and were incredibly beaten 4-2. It is the magic of the FA Cup.

Betting on the FA Cup

Due to the amount of teams in the FA Cup it is quite easy to find a good game to bet on. The most interesting games to bet on occur from the fourth round onwards, when the Premier League teams get involved. These are where bettors can find long odds on lower league sides travelling to Championship and Premier League sides. One thing to look out for is when the starting lineups are announced. If a big team names a weakened side a upset is on the cards. Sides that travel to these lower league teams will find it difficult to get a result.

Last year in the FA Cup

Last year in the FA Cup was once again a memorable year. Reading having a remarkable run to the the semi-finals to unfortunately lose out to eventual winners, Arsenal. Aston Villa, who had a turbulent year managed to defy the odds and make it to the final showpiece. Arsenal were just too strong on the day and came away with a 4-0 win aswell as the historic trophy. With that win the overtook Manchester United as the most successful team in the FA Cup’s history.

Your FA Guide

Before the Premier League teams get involved in the fourth round, there are three previous rounds. These rounds are for the non-league and conference league teams. The main goal for these sides is to make it to the fourth round so the have the opportunity to host or travel to a big named side and potentially cause an upset. As the rounds progress the number of teams gets smaller and smaller with the big sides usually prevailing. Once they reach the semi-final stages the match is brought to a neutral venue. The home of English football, Wembley. After a winner is determined the biggest event in the English football calender takes place at Wembley stadium after the Premier League finishes.
